The Great Southbourne Bake-Off 2017 raises £267.50

We were blown away by the talent and generosity of the children and parents at our school. The number of entrees was so high, it made the judging particularly difficult, but the bake sale particularly successful. As a result we raised a whopping £267.50, thank you.

The winners for each category were:

Chocolate Cake – 1st Elsie (Osprey), 2nd Lily S (Falcon), 3rd Camille (Kestrel)

Fruit Cake – 1st Mollie (Merlin), 2nd Scarlet (Kestrel), 3rd Evie G (Kestrel)

Biscuits – 1st Adam (Kestrel), 2nd Sophie (Owl), 3rd Holly (Osprey)

Sponge Cake – 1st Megan (Kestrel), 2nd Archie (Merlin), 3rd Lily (Buzzard)

Cup Cakes – 1st Thomas (Merlin), 2nd Sam (Merlin), 3rd Drew (Buzzard)

Most Unusual Cake – 1st Olivia (Hawk), 2nd Finley O (Hawk), 3rd Macy (Osprey)

Thank you to everyone for making the Great Southbourne Bake-Off such a success. All of the talented bakers made for an excellent and fierce competition. Thank you to all of the parents and children who came to join in the fun at the end of the day eating unimaginable amounts of cake and helping raise money for new cooking equipment at school. A big thank you also to all of the staff who gave up their free time to help run the event and get Pie Faced!

HOT TOPIC – What would you like as our whole school topic?

Every year our second topic for the Summer term is a whole school topic, where each year group joins together to study the same thing. It could be based on Science, History, Geography or another element of the curriculum. But what would you like us to look at this Summer?

Let us know your ideas in the comments below. Remember, it must be something we have not studied before and it must be interesting enough to last the whole half term! Think about if we could go on any amazing school trips or which visitors we might be able to get to come into the school.

HOT TOPIC – Should we wear a school tie?

A suggestion was given to the School Council that we should wear school ties. We thought it was an interesting idea and wanted to know what you all thought. Should we do it? Why would it good or bad idea? Have your say.

Southbourne’s Got Talent!

As there are so many talented children at Southbourne Juniors, the School Council thought it would be a great idea to hold a talent competition. If you are a great singer, dancer, juggler, magician, comedian, gymnast or have another special talent, then let Lottie in Owl class know. Auditions will be held soon and the final will take place in the last week of term. Good luck.

Pick a classy name for your class name

The children of Southbourne have told us that they think the current system for identifying our classes is rather dull. As a result we want your help in coming up with better names than Class 1, Class2, etc. First we need a theme and then 8 names for our classes around that theme. Ideally the theme will have something to do with Southbourne. Think about what the area is known for and share your ideas in the comments. This is your chance to make a lasting impact on our school by renaming the classes.

Our first meeting

We held the first meeting of the School Council this week. We were introduced to all the members of the Council and had to write a report for the Governors. We also discussed what we would like to do as a Council and set an agenda for our next meeting.

  • Football before school
  • Inside space for break and lunch times
  • Hooks on the back of toilet doors and fixed locks
  • Get the outside equipment out more at break and lunch times

Let us know what you would like the Council to discuss and get to work on.

Have your say…

This is the brand new School Council blog. Following the elections last week, we now have a democratically elected School Council. This blog offers you the chance to decide what the Council works on and you can even share your opinions about decisions that are being made.
